Naya Paltan clash: BNP leaders Fakhrul and Abbas sent to jail

Dhaka, December 10: The DB arrested BNP Secretary General Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir and the party's Standing Committee member Mirza Abbas in the case of clashes between BNP leader-activists and police in Naya Paltan area of the capital on Thursday night. When they were produced in the court on Friday, the court rejected the bail application and sent them to jail. Dhaka Metropolitan Magistrate Mohammad Jasim gave this order after the hearing.

At around 4:30 in the afternoon, Mirza Fakhrul and Mirza Abbas were brought to court and the investigating officer of the case, Detective Police (DB) Inspector Tariqul Islam, appealed for their custody. However, they were not taken to court. They were kept in the CMM court jail in Dhaka.

Advocate Masood Ahmed Talukder and Omar Farooq Farooqui heard the bail on behalf of Mirza Fakhrul and Mirza Abbas. Dhaka Metropolitan Public Prosecutor Abdullah Abu Jamin opposed the state. After hearing both parties, the court rejected the bail application and ordered to send them to jail.

Meanwhile, Mirza Fakhrul's wife Rahat Ara Begum and her daughter Mirza Safaruh Sumi came to the court. Mirza Abbas's wife Afroza Abbas also came to the court.

Regarding the arrest, DB chief Mohammad Harun ar Rashid said, "We brought Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir and Mirza Abbas for questioning. After the interrogation, I arrested them as the informers in the incident on Wednesday."

He told reporters in front of the DB office on Minto Road around 2.30 pm on Friday (December 9), that there was a brutal attack on the police. threw cocktails and damaged property. In that context, their crime is to be the instigator, planner and director of these crimes.

When asked whether any other central leader of BNP is under surveillance, the DB chief said, "We are keeping an eye on everything. If anyone commits more such crimes they will be under our watch and we will take action against them as well."
