Neighbouring countries' problems should be resolved through dialogue and compromise: PM Hasina

Dhaka, March 5: Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina has said that the problems between the neighboring countries should be resolved through dialogue and understanding.

Quoting Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina, Press Secretary Ihsanul Karim said, "There may be problems between the neighboring countries. We think this issue should be resolved through discussion and compromise."

The Prime Minister said this during a courtesy call by External Affairs Minister of India Dr. S Jaishankar at Ganobhaban on  March 4 afternoon.

Jaishankar lauded Bangladesh for moving from a least developed country to a developing country under the dynamic leadership of Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina. "This is a huge achievement, the development of Bangladesh is unprecedented," the Indian minister said.

Jaishankar informed the Prime Minister that he had fruitful discussions with Foreign Minister Dr AK Abdul Momen in Dhaka on the visit of Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi to the national capital to attend the Golden Jubilee celebrations of Bangladesh's independence.

"It is a great honor for India to join the celebrations of the golden jubilee of Bangladesh's independence and the birth centenary of the Father of the Nation," he added.

Regarding the outbreak of Covid-19, the Indian minister said, "We are all facing a crisis in this region due to this pandemic."

He reiterated India's commitment to assist Bangladesh in tackling the coronavirus situation.

The Prime Minister commended India for its assistance in vaccinating against the Covid-19 disease. Announcing the launch of immunization in Bangladesh from last month, Sheikh Hasina said government agencies, including the armed forces, police, BGB and leaders and activists of her party, would take swift action to combat the epidemic successfully.

She said Bangladesh's economy is moving forward despite the Covid-19 pandemic, floods and cyclones due to timely steps taken by the government.

The Prime Minister presented seven volumes of secret documents of the Pakistani Intelligence Department to the Indian Foreign Minister. The Indian Minister presented to the Prime Minister two books, including one on the Liberation War of Bangladesh, written by his father, the Indian Civil Servant K. Subramaniam.

The Indian foreign minister arrived in Dhaka on Thursday morning on a brief official visit. Dr. Gowher Rizvi, Advisor to the Prime Minister on International Affairs, Dr. Ahmed Kaikaus, Chief Secretary to the Prime Minister, Indian High Commissioner to Bangladesh Vikram K Doraiswamy were present during the meeting.
