Dhaka, March 22: Nepal's President Bidya Devi Bhandari paid homage to the heroic martyrs at the National Memorial in Savar. On Monday (March 22) at 11:10 a.m., she came to the National Memorial to pay her respects to the martyrs. She was welcomed by the Minister of Liberation War Affairs, State Minister for Housing and Public Works, GOC of 9th Infantry Division, District Superintendent of Police and other senior government officials.

She later paid homage by laying a wreath at the main altar of the National Memorial. At this time a team of three forces gave her a guard of honor.

Later, the President of Nepal planted a lotus sapling in the premises of the memorial and signed the inspection book. She left for Dhaka at 11:25 am.

Nepal's President Bidya Devi arrived in Dhaka in the morning to attend a function marking the birth centenary of Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman and the golden jubilee of independence.

President Abdul Hamid received the President of Nepal at the airport. After 21 rounds of artillery fire, the President of Nepal was given a guard of honor at the airport. This is her first visit to Bangladesh as President. Bidya Devi Bhandari will stay in Dhaka for two days on March 22 and 23.

According to the schedule, she will meet the Prime Minister and the Foreign Minister in the afternoon. She will then attend the ceremony at the National Parade Ground. A cultural event has also been organised on the occasion with performances by artists from Bangladesh and Nepal.

In the evening, the President of Nepal will meet the President of Bangladesh and discuss various bilateral issues. A number of agreements and memoranda of understanding are expected to be signed between the two sides in the presence of the two leaders.

At present Bangladesh and Nepal have bilateral transit and protocol agreements. Under this agreement, Nepal was given six ports of call. These are Chittagong Port, Mongla Port, Benapole, Banglabandha, Biral and Chilahati. These ports of call can transport goods to Nepal. But at present regular goods do not come and go in Nepal through any other port except Banglabandha.

Tonight, President Md. Abdul Hamid will host a dinner in honour of the President of Nepal and her delegation. Tomorrow (March 23), she will visit the Bangabandhu Memorial Museum before returning to Kathmandu.

Nepal's delegation includes Nepal's Foreign Minister Pradeep Gyawali and secretaries and senior officials from the Ministry of External Affairs, the President's Office and the relevant ministries.
