Newly elected mayors of two cities take oath

Own Correspondent, Dhaka, 4 April 2024: Newly elected mayors of two city corporations took oath on Thursday. Besides, five Zilla Parishad chairmen have also taken oath. The mayors of the two cities are Tahsin Bahar Suchana of Comilla and Ekramul Haque Titu of Mymensingh respectively.

Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina on Thursday morning at Shapla Hall of her office in Tejgaon, the mayor also administered the oath to the chairmen of the Zilla Parishad. The five Zilla Parishad chairmen are: ANM Obaidur Rahman of Kurigram, Abdul Majid of Thakurgaon, Shamim Talukdar of Sirajganj, Billal Mia of Brahmanbaria and Aliya Akhtar of Habiganj.

Later, 44 newly elected councilors of Mymensingh City Corporation's general ward and councilors of reserved women constituencies also took oath at the same venue. Local Government, Rural Development and Cooperatives Minister Md. Tajul Islam read the oath to the councillors. Local Government Department Secretary Muhammad Ibrahim conducted the oath ceremony.

Tahsin Bahar Suchna, daughter of Member of Parliament of Comilla-6 Constituency AKM Bahauddin Bahar, won the City Corporation by-election on March 9. She is the first elected woman mayor of Comilla. Ekramul Haque Titu was elected mayor in the Mymensingh City Corporation election held on the same day.
