Dhaka, October 29: The list of murders in the Rohingya refugee camps of Ukhia-Teknaf in Cox's Bazar is getting longer. Nine people have been killed in the camps this month. In the last five months, this number has increased to 25 people. The Rohingya claim that those who have become plaintiffs or witnesses in these murder cases have been killed later.

Again, most of the Rohingya victims of murder are camp management committee leaders (mazhi) and volunteer guards. As a result, ordinary Rohingyas are passing their time with extreme fear. The locals around the camp are also spending their days in worry.

According to the information provided by the relatives of the murdered Rohingyas and the law enforcement agencies, ordinary Rohingyas are targeted by miscreants only if they cooperate with the law enforcement agencies or witness a case regarding those involved in various crimes including drug and kidnapping in the camp. Then whoever is seen as their obstacle is killed and 'removed'. Again, even after committing such a crime, the murderers are able to hide easily from the camp surrounded by mountains. Because of this, they don't have to think much before killing.

"A gang among us is committing crimes with invisible gestures. They are torturing us, killing us with words. We have reported these things to the police. The miscreants are targeting and killing those who have reported about the criminals, who have been plaintiffs in the case, who have been witnesses," they said.

In this situation, the refugees have demanded a joint operation with the coordination of the army for the safety of the lives of the ordinary Rohingyas.

Last October 27 (Thursday) in the morning, Ayat Ullah (40), son of Kefayet Ullah, and Yashin (30), son of Mohammad Kasim, residents of C Block of Kutupalong Camp No. 17, were shot dead. A group of 15-20 miscreants attacked the camp early in the morning. They shot Ayatullah and Yashin out of the house and fled. Yashin then died on the spot and Ayatullah died on the way to the hospital.

In this regard, the captain of 14 APBN (ADIG) Syed Harunur Rashid, who is in charge of the camp, said that it was not confirmed who or why the killing was done. Some have been taken into custody and are being interrogated.

In 2017, due to humanitarian reasons, Rohingyas were sheltered in the courtyard of many houses. That's what happened to the locals. A large number of local families live around the camp. Because of the Rohingya miscreants, local people are afraid to leave their homes even after evening, just like expatriates in their own country.
