Dhaka, April 2: The official launch of Bangabandhu IX Bangladesh Games has started on the occasion of the birth centenary of Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman and the golden jubilee of independence. Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina inaugurated the virtual games at Bangabandhu National Stadium on Thursday evening.

After Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina took her seat on the stage at Ganobhaban, the national anthem was played. Then the athletes lined up and took position on the field. Archer Roman Sana administered the oath of office to the athletes and former judo star Kamrunnahar Hiru administered the oath of office to the judges.

BOA Secretary General Syed Shahed Reza greeted the Prime Minister after greeting the athletes. Then BOA President and Chief of Army Staff General Aziz Ahmed and State Minister for Youth and Sports. Zahid Ahsan Russell MP.

After the speech of the chief guest, Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina officially inaugurated the Games at 7:41 pm. He instructed everyone to follow the hygiene rules.

Sports-loving Prime Minister Bangabandhu expressed regret over not being able to inaugurate the ninth Bangladesh Games.

Speaking as the chief guest, the Prime Minister said, "I have always loved sports and have always tried to be present on the field myself in the past. This time I couldn't, it's the saddest thing for me. Even then, I would say, I did not come thinking of everyone's safety. Hopefully, from now on, the games that will be held in 31 disciplines, you will abide by the health protection. '

The 9th Bangladesh Games, the biggest sports event in the country, is a new chapter in the country's sports. This year's games were organized in the name of Bangabandhu on the occasion of the birth centenary of Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman and the golden jubilee of independence. That is why the torch procession of this year's games started from the tomb of Bangabandhu at Tungipara in Gopalganj.

State Minister for Youth and Sports Md Zahid Ahsan Russell MP received the torch when it reached Dhaka on Thursday afternoon, the day before the inauguration of the Games, which was attended by several athletes on the road from Tungipara.

After Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina inaugurated the Games, golfer Siddiqur Rahman and swimmer Mahfuza Khatun Shila lit the main torch at Bangabandhu National Stadium.

The Prime Minister is very happy that the torch was lit from Tungipara. She thanked the Games organizers for this.
