Nixon Chowdhury appeals for bail

Independent MP from Faridpur-4 Mujibur Rahman Chowdhury alias Nixon Chowdhury has applied for anticipatory bail in a case filed by the Election Commission (EC) alleging violation of election code of conduct.

The petition was filed in the concerned branch of the High Court on Sunday (October 18). Later, the High Court Justice Sheikh Mohammad. A bench of Justice Zakir Hossain and Justice KM Zahid Sarwar Kajal has fixed Nixon Chowdhury for bail hearing on Tuesday (October 20).

Nixon Chowdhury's lawyer was heard in court today. Shahdin Malik. He was accompanied by lawyer M Manzur Alam.


Lawyer M Manzur Alam said, "Nixon Chowdhury's application for anticipatory bail in the Election Commission case has been submitted to the court today. The High Court has fixed Tuesday for hearing on the petition.

Earlier, the Election Commission had filed a case against Mujibur Rahman Chowdhury alias Nixon Chowdhury, an independent MP from Faridpur-4 constituency, for violating the code of conduct in the by-election for the post of chairman of Charbhadrasan Upazila Parishad and for intimidating government officials.

District Senior Election Officer Noabul Islam filed the case with Charbhadrasan Police Station in Faridpur. The plaintiff in the case, Nawabul Islam Charbhadrasan, was the returning officer in that by-election.
Nixon Chowdhury was accused of threatening the Deputy Commissioner (DC) and abusing election officials in the by-election for the post of Charbhadrasan Upazila Parishad chairman.

In such a situation, the Election Commission decided that a case was filed against Mojibur Rahman Chowdhury (Nixon), an independent MP from Faridpur-4 constituency.

According to the statement of case, MP Nixon Chowdhury called Faridpur Deputy Commissioner Atul Sarkar on the morning of October 9 and expressed his displeasure over the appointment of more magistrates in the election. If his supportive candidate is defeated due to the appointment of more magistrates, he shows various kinds of intimidation and indecent remarks, including blocking the highway.

Besides, the Assistant Commissioner (Land) of Bhangar arrested a person for violating the code of conduct on election day. In this incident, the MP insulted and intimidated him and the concerned magistrate on the UNO mobile phone in very obscene language. Apart from that, Nixon Chowdhury has violated the code of conduct by participating in the election activities by appearing in the constituency.

Charbhadrasan Police Officer-in-Charge (OC) Nazneen Khanam said Inspector (Investigation) Ziarul Islam has been assigned to investigate the case. The investigation of the case will be completed as soon as possible.
