Dhaka, May 19: The High Court did not grant bail to diploma engineer Ferdous Khan Rana in a case filed against him for obstructing police duties in Brahmanbaria due to clashes between Hefazat-e-Islam in different parts of the country on the eve of Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi's visit to Bangladesh. The court dropped his bail application from the agenda.

The High Court said, "At the moment, bail will not be granted in the case related to Hifazat-e-Islam."

The virtual order comprising High Court Justice Mamnoon Rahman and Justice Khandaker Diliruzzaman passed the order on Tuesday (May 18).

Advocate Zainul Abedin, former president of the Supreme Court Bar Association, was present in the court on Tuesday to hear the bail application. Deputy Attorney General Taherul Islam represented the state.

Hefazat-e-Islam Bangladesh activists vandalized and set fire to various places in the country centering on the visit of Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi to Bangladesh. There were also clashes with law enforcement. In these incidents, several cases were registered in different police stations of the country. In the case filed in Brahmanbaria, diploma engineer Ferdous Khan Rana was arrested on April 8. The case alleged obstruction of police duties.

Senior lawyer Zainul Abedin presented Rana's bail application in the case. During the hearing, the court commented that no one related to the Hefazat cases would be granted bail. The bench then ordered the application to be removed from the agenda.
