Dhaka, May 18: On the 40th anniversary of her homecoming on May 17, Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina has said no one can distort the history of Bangladesh anymore.

"No one can erase Bangladesh history anymore. I will build the Golden Bangladesh the Father of Nation dreamt of," the Prime Minister said.

The Prime Minister made the remarks in her introductory speech at the regular meeting of the Cabinet at the Bangladesh Secretariat on Monday (May 17) morning. She attended the meeting virtually from her residence Ganobhaban.

Sheikh Hasina said, "This Bangladesh is independent, Bangladesh will remain independent and we will build the Golden Bangladesh my father Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman dreamt of."

Recalling her return home on May 17, 1981, she said, "I had to come to the country after overcoming many obstacles at that time. The government at that time would not allow me to come at all. They conspired against me and many letters were sent to keep me away."

Sheikh Hasina said, "I knew that the killers of the father of the nation were in power then, the murderers were given indemnity. I came here in that situation. I did not think much. Because, this freedom could not have failed. I had to make it count- This was me and (Sheikh) Rehana's pledge."

Bangabandhu's daughter said, "Today we have established ourselves as a developing country. We have been able to overcome many obstacles in the country and abroad and stand where we are today. I expect Bangladesh to move forward from where we are today. We have lost many people in the coronavirus pandemic and I pray for their souls."
