No one should be elected unopposed: Sheikh Hasina to candidates

Dhaka, Nov 27: Awami League President and Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina has instructed the candidates to ensure that no one can be elected unopposed.

She gave this instruction in the discussion meeting with the candidates of 300 seats of the party on Sunday afternoon. Meanwhile, Sheikh Hasina instructed the leaders to accept the party's decision on the nomination.

She said, "Seats will be opened if necessary to conduct competitive elections subject to opposition parties not coming. No one should be elected unopposed." In that case, the party chief agreed to have multiple dummy candidates.

Earlier, the party nominees for the 12th National Assembly elections crossed the security cordon and entered the Ganabhaban in a queue to exchange views with the Awami League President and Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina. They were excited to meet the leader.

Awami League does not want to stay in power by flattery: Prime Minister Prime Minister and Awami League President Sheikh Hasina said that her party does not want to stay in power by flattery, because the people are its strength.

She said, "We have no guardian other than the people of the country. Being the daughter of the Father of the Nation, Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman, I cannot play politics of flattery to stay in power."

The Prime Minister said this while exchanging views with Awami League candidates for the upcoming national elections at the Ganabhaban today.

After the meeting, Prime Minister's Press Secretary Ihsanul Karim briefed the journalists.

Awami League Parliamentary Nomination Board Chairman Sheikh Hasina said Bangladesh became independent under the leadership of the Father of the Nation.

She said, "This land is ours. No one will be tolerated here. People are our strength and we are not dependent on anyone."

Summarizing the steps taken by her government in the socio-economic development of the country in the last 15 years, she said that people are at peace because Awami League is in power. If the people of the country vote for Awami League again, the trend of development will continue.

Sheikh Hasina also said that as the daughter of the country's Prime Minister and father of the nation, she is working for everyone regardless of party affiliation. The development of the country is visible today as her party has been in power for three consecutive terms in the democratic process.
