No one will be spared in Comilla incident: PM Hasina

Dhaka, October 15: Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina has said that no one will be spared in the Comilla incident. He said the incident was being investigated. No exemption will be given to those who have caused such incidents. Whatever the religion, it will be judged. The Prime Minister said this while exchanging greetings with devotees at the central puja mandapa of Dhakeshwari National Temple on the fourth day of Durga Puja on Thursday (October 14) afternoon.

At the time, the Prime Minister further said, those who cannot gain the trust and confidence of the people have caused such incidents.

Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina joined the virtual exchange of greetings from her official residence Ganobhaban as the chief guest. At this time all the worshipers stood up and greeted the Prime Minister.

Advocate Kishore Ranjan Mandal, General Secretary of Mahanagar Sarvajanin Puja Committee gave welcome speech on the occasion. Shri Milon Kanti Dutta, President of Bangladesh Puja Udjapan Parishad, Swami Purnatmananda Maharaj, Principal of Ramkrishna Math and Mission Dhaka addressed the function.

Shailendranath Majumder, President of Mahanagar Sarvajanin Puja Committee presided over the function conducted by Shri Nirmal Kumar Chatterjee, General Secretary of Bangladesh Puja Udjapan Parishad.

Incidentally, several shrines were attacked on Wednesday (October 13) morning after news of the desecration of the Qur'an spread at the Nanuar Dighi shrine in Comilla. As soon as the news spread, places of worship were vandalized in several districts including Chandpur and Chittagong. Four people have been killed in clashes between protesters and police in Chandpur.

State Minister for Religious Affairs Faridul Haque Khan said in an emergency announcement by the Ministry of Religious Affairs on Wednesday night, "We have seen reports of desecration of the Holy Quran in Comilla. We have already instructed the local administration to look into the matter. Whoever is involved in this incident for the purpose of destroying religious harmony, they must be brought under the law and appropriate punishment will be provided."
