No place for quarantine in Jessore, patients being sent to neighbouring districts

Dhaka, May 1: Passport holders returning from India are being kept in a 14-day institutional quarantine at 29 residential hotels in Jessore. However, the quarantine centers in the district have been filled with more passengers returning from India than expected. The returning passengers are being sent to Khulna, Satkhira, Jhenaidah and Narail.

According to district administration sources, the passage of passengers with passports by land has been declared closed for 14 days so that the new type of corona from India cannot spread in Bangladesh. In such a situation, 1,200 passengers stranded in India are returning to the country with the special permission of the embassy.

Of these, 75 returned to the country through Benapole in Jessore till Friday (April 30) evening. In the last 5 days, 771 people have returned to the country from India under special arrangements.

Among those who have returned to the country in the last 5 days, 15 have tested 'positive'. They have been kept in quarantine at Jessore General Hospital.

Also, the body of one person came to the country last Saturday (April 24) and another person on last Friday. On their return from India, the corona negative persons have been kept in quarantine at residential hotels in Benapole and Jessore city and Gazi Dargah Madrasa in Jhikargachha.

Jessore has arrangements to accommodate 1,000 people. The way people came from India, all the houses in Jessore were full on Friday afternoon. In such a situation, the district corona prevention committee organized an emergency meeting at noon. There it was decided to send more than two hundred returning passengers to the four districts surrounding Jessore.

Jessore Deputy Commissioner and District Corona Prevention Committee convener Tamizul Islam Khan said, "More people are coming from India than the number of passport holders we were expecting to return. Hotels in Benapole are full. Gazi Dargah Orphanage and Madrasa Building in Jhikargachha Upazila. It has also filled. Two hundred and two people have been kept there. That is why it has been decided to send the returnees to quarantine in Khulna, Satkhira, Jhenaidah and Narail districts adjacent to Jessore."
