No reason to worry about US labor policy: Foreign Minister

Own Correspondent, Dhaka, 2 December 2023: Foreign Minister Dr. AK Abdul Momen said that the new labor policy of the United States will not affect the garment sector of Bangladesh. There is no reason to worry about this. He said this while talking to journalists at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs on Thursday.

Dr. Momen said, "Businessmen of the United States buy cheap and timely products from Bangladesh. Business does not stop when the American government says, business is mainly done by private enterprises of the two countries. We will not have any impact on the labor policy of the United States. There is no reason to worry about it. But we welcome any step for the welfare of the workers."

The foreign minister said, "There will be no impact on trade as a result of the labor policy. Is there no trade between the United States and China? Many people were worried after the US quota went up here. Later, it was seen that it had no effect. Foreign Secretary Masood at the Rashtriya Guest House Padma on Thursday. US Ambassador to Dhaka Peter Haas met with Bin Momen.

Asked about the meeting, Momen said, "It is a routine meeting. How did you (journalists) know about this meeting? You know everything!"

When asked about the letter from the Bangladesh Embassy of the United States to the Ministry of Commerce expressing concerns about the labor policy, Dr. Momen said, "The embassy has written to the ministry. It can be given. I don't know the details. But you make news about these things because you lack patriotism. Some other Journalists of the country did not write news about these things."
