Noakhali violence: Accused Faisal names 15 others including BNP leader Bulu

Dhaka, October 26: Faisal Inam Kamal, 39, vice-president of the district Swechchhasebak Dal, has claimed responsibility for the attack on a puja mandapa and a temple in Chaumuhani of Noakhali's Begumganj upazila. In his statement, he mentioned the involvement of 15 people, including BNP central vice chairman Barkat Ullah Bulu, police said.

Earlier on Monday (October 25), Faisal Inam Kamal made a confessional statement under Section 164 in the court of Senior Judicial Magistrate Mohammad Sayeed Nahir.

It is learned that Faisal is the son of Abu Hanif of Rajullahpur village in Begumganj upazila. He was arrested on charges of inciting propaganda, assault, vandalism and arson on social media Facebook.

At 11:30 pm, District Superintendent of Police (SP) Shahidul Islam said he was sent to court in a case under the Digital Security Act at Begumganj police station. Faisal Inam Kamal agreed to give a confessional statement about his involvement at the time. Later, Senior Judicial Magistrate Mohammad Sayeedin Nahi recorded the statement of the accused under section 164.

SP Shahidul Islam further said that Kamal has testified about the involvement of 15 people including BNP central vice chairman Barkat Ullah Bulu. We are continuing our operation to arrest the other accused in the attack on the shrine.

He said police arrested Faisal Inam Kamal, 39, son of Abu Hanif of Rajullahpur village, in a case under the Digital Security Act for posting provocative posts aimed at destroying communal harmony in Begumganj. Later, he made a confessional statement under section 164 in connection with the communal violence, looting and arson in Chaumuhani and said that 15 other people, including former local MP and BNP vice chairman Barkat Ullah Bulu, were involved in the incident. The matter is being seriously investigated.
