Nothing to worry about floods, says Prime Minister in Sylhet

Dhaka, June 21: Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina has asked residents of Sylhet divison to not worry about the floods. She said that the government has taken all kinds of measures to deal with the floods.

Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina said this while participating in a program of district administration at Sylhet Circuit House on Tuesday.

The Prime Minister said assistance would be provided by listing the flood victims in Sylhet region. The flood victims will be given all the food and medicine they need. The government will take measures so that the fish farmers can be compensated for the damage caused by the floods. She said those who are working in the flood must also be careful and cautious and not catch a cold from the flood waters.

She further said that the Awami League government and the opposition party are the first to come forward in the help of the aggrieved people. I live in a flood prone area. I understand the plight of flood victims.

Earlier, the Prime Minister reached Sylhet Osmani International Airport by helicopter around 10:00 am on Tuesday. From there she went to Sylhet Circuit House.

At the Sylhet Circuit House, the Prime Minister took part in an 'exchange meeting' to review the flood situation and rehabilitate the flood victims. The meeting was attended by the Prime Minister's traveling companion, local administration officials and local Awami League leaders.

Earlier, she left the old airport in Tejgaon by helicopter at 8:00 am to inspect the flood situation in Netrokona, Sunamganj and Sylhet districts.

Several ministers accompanied the Prime Minister in two helicopters.

Her companions were the Information Minister Minister, Foreign Minister, Environment Minister, Deputy Minister of Water Resources, Awami League leader Jahangir Kabir Nanak, Mirza Azam, Ahmed Hossain and Sujit Roy Nandi, Chief Secretary to the Prime Minister, Senior Secretary to the Prime Minister's Office, Senior Secretary of Ministry of Water Resources, Press Secretary to the Prime Minister, Director General of SSF, Military Secretary to the Prime Minister, Private Secretary-1, Personal physician, PGR Commander, ADC, Prime Minister's Protocol Officer-1, Four personnel of the SSF; BTV cameraman and four members of the media.
