Nuclear fuel for Rooppur Nuclear Power Plant to arrive in September

Dhaka, July 31: Russia's State Atomic Energy Corporation Rosatom Director General Alexey Likhachev said that nuclear fuel for Rooppur Nuclear Power Plant (RNPP) will arrive in the country in September.

He said this during a courtesy meeting with Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina at her official residence Ganabhaban on Monday (July 31).

After the meeting, Prime Minister's Press Secretary Ihsanul Karim briefed the journalists.

Quoting Likhachev's speech, Ihsanul Karim said, “The work of Ruppur Nuclear Power Plant (RNPP) has progressed beyond hundreds of hurdles. Nuclear fuel for this plant will arrive in Bangladesh in September.”

In the meeting, Rosatom DG informed the Prime Minister about the overall progress of RNPP. They also spoke about the inaugural celebrations of the RNPP.

The Prime Minister thanked all concerned for taking forward the work of RNPP despite the Covid-19 pandemic and the global crisis. She expressed gratitude to Russia for providing technology and financial support.

Recalling Russia's support and assistance in the Great War of Liberation and the reconstruction of Bangladesh after the war, Sheikh Hasina expressed hope that Russia's cooperation will continue in the future.

At this time, Science and Technology Minister Architect Yafes Osman, Prime Minister's Ambassador Mohammad Ziauddin, his Principal Secretary M Tofazzel Hossain Mia, Senior Secretary of Science and Technology Ministry Ziaul Hasan, Prime Minister's Special Assistant Dr. Shahid Hossain and Russian Ambassador to Bangladesh Alexander Mantsky were present there.
