One held with weapons in Dhaka
Dhaka, October 29: Police arrested a 32-year-old man with foreign-made firearms and weapons near Dhaka's Badda Police Station area.
The man has been identified as Md. Safiqul Islam Helal.
The Gulshan Division of the Dhaka Metropolitan Detective Branch (DB) police arrested him from Lekpar in front of Dakshin Badda Lekpar SNF Enterprise around 8pm on Wednesday (October 28).
A foreign-made pistol and a revolver with five rounds of ammunition and magazines were recovered from him during the arrest.
Police Inspector Abdus Chobahan of Gulshan Intelligence Department said that on August 6, three unidentified persons came on a motorcycle and fired three rounds at the house of Morshalin Haider Babu, a resident of North Mainarbagh area of Badda Police Station. Morshalin Haider filed a case with Badda police station over the incident.
Shafiqul Islam Helal was arrested in connection with the incident after reviewing the CCTV footage.
Preliminary interrogation revealed that the arrested Helal and his fugitive accomplices had been committing crimes including extortion and land grabbing in Badda and Gulshan police stations under the threat of weapons. A regular case has been filed against them at Badda police station.
