Dhaka, March 8: Onion, which was sold at Tk 120 per kg in the retail market, within a day the price of that onion has decreased by Tk 10 and is being sold at Tk 110. The price of onion in the country's market has started to fall a day after the decision of the Indian Ministry of External Affairs to allow the export of onions to five other countries including Bangladesh.

The sudden jump in onion market was running between Tk 120 to Tk 130 per kg for 10 days. Until the middle of last month, the price of onion was between Tk 70-80 per kg, but at the end of the month, the price suddenly went to 100 taka. And in the first week of this month, that onion went to Tk 120-130.

On Tuesday, onions were sold at the price of Tk 110 per kg in various bajaos of the capital, but on Wednesday, they sold the same onion at Tk 120 in those retail shops.

The sellers say that the price of onion has increased for about 10 days. As the raw onions are at the end, there is less supply in the market, that's why the prices of onions are going up. The price of the main type of onion ie Halicata onion would have come down in the market. In the meantime, the price of onion has started to fall due to the news of arrival from India.
