Over 64,000 Haj pilgrims reach Saudi Arabia

Dhaka, 10 June 2023: Over 64,000  pilgrims have reached Saudi Arabia for the purpose of performing the holy Hajj this year.

Among them, 9 thousand 350 pilgrims under government management and 54 thousand 927 pilgrims under private management reached Saudi Arabia on various Hajj flights. So far, eight pilgrims including two women have died in Mecca due to various reasons.

This information is known from the bulletin of the IT helpdesk of the Ministry of Religious Affairs on Friday. It is said that so far 10 thousand 459 pilgrims have received automatic medical treatment certificates from medical centers in Saudi Arabia. A total of 127 thousand 198 pilgrims have been allowed to go to Saudi Arabia this year. So far, 1 lakh 6 thousand 79 pilgrim visas have been issued. The rest of the visas will also be available soon.

The first Hajj flight started on May 21 this year. The last flight to Haj is on June 22. On the other hand, after performing Hajj, the flight back home will start on July 2. The return flight of pilgrims will end on August 2.

Holy Hajj will be held on June 27 this year subject to moon sighting. This year 1 lakh 27 thousand 198 people from Bangladesh have received permission to perform Hajj. Biman Bangladesh Airlines will transport 63 thousand 599 people. Bangladesh Biman will operate a total of 160 dedicated pre-Hajj flights. Biman's Hajj flights will end on June 22. Besides, Saudi Airlines will transport 50 percent of pilgrims.

Meanwhile, due to the abnormal increase in the cost of Hajj, Bangladesh could not fulfill the quota despite extending the time 9 times. Finally, the Ministry of Religion returned about five thousand quotas to the Saudi government.
