Owner of building affected by the explosion in Gulistan among others in DB custody

Dhaka, March 9: The Dhaka Metropolitan Police's Detective Branch (DB) has taken into custody the owner of the building in connection with the explosion of the building in Gulistan. They are being interrogated. Additional Commissioner of Police (DB) Md. Harun-or-Rashid shared this information on Wednesday.

When asked whether the building's owner and caretaker have been arrested, he told reporters, "We have not arrested anyone. We have called house owners and shop owners for questioning, questioning them. I am also talking to those who are injured."

The DB chief said, "We will ask them whether they are not supposed to have shops in the basement as per the rules, whether the sewage line, septic tank, water reservoir were regularly maintained or not."

He further said, "I am inquiring to know whose negligence caused this casualty. Besides, we are investigating whether someone from outside has done this or there is an opportunity to do this or not."

An explosion took place in a seven-storied building known as Queen's Sanitary Market at Siddiqbazar near the BRTC bus counter in Gulistan on Tuesday around 5:30 pm.

Two buildings of seven and five floors were also damaged. The basement, first and second floors of the seven-storey building at Queens Market collapsed. And the ground floor of the five-storey building was damaged. At least 21 people died in this explosion. About a hundred people were injured. Three people are reportedly missing.
