Dhaka, April 17: Speakers at a discussion meeting demanded the immediate arrest of those responsible for the crimes of sedition and terrorism. The meeting called for taking stern action against those who have carried out riots across the country to disrupt the golden jubilee of independence. At the same time, they said, arrangements should be made so that they do not hurt the spirit of the Liberation War in the future.

This was stated by the speakers at a discussion meeting on 'Anti-Bangladesh activities of Jamaat-e-Hifazat clique: what the government and civil society should do' organized by an international webinar on the initiative of the Ghatak Dalal Nirmul Committee.

Minister for Liberation War Affairs Muktijoddha Advocate AKM Mozammel Haque was present as the chief guest at the webinar.

Writer-journalist Shahriar Kabir, president of the Nirmul Committee, presided over the webinar. Workers Party President Rashed Khan Menon MP, Jatiya Samajtantrik Dal President Hasanul Haque Inu MP, narrator Professor Muhammad Zafar Iqbal and others were present as speakers.

Chief Guest, Minister for Liberation War Affairs, Advocate AKM Mozammel Haque said, "Islam in Hifazat wants to seize state power using Islam in the same vein as Jamaat. "Their aim is to oust the forces of the liberation war from Bangladesh and turn Bangladesh into Pakistan. To release those who do not respect the national anthem, the father of the nation, the constitution is nothing but deception with the spirit of the Liberation War."

"Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi has visited Bangladesh twice before. Hefazat was not seen anywhere then. This time, they have resorted to violence all over the country, saying they are against Modi to thwart the golden jubilee of independence. Despite the delay, the government is taking strict action against them. The government will make arrangements so that they do not hurt the spirit of the liberation war in the future. "

Politician Rashed Khan Menon, president of the Workers Party, said, "Jamaat's involvement in the May 5, 2013 crackdown on Hifazat is clear. The current Amir of Hifazat is a representative of Babungari Jamaat. A large part of the Hifazat leaders took part in anti-independence activities in 1971. Hefazat's current committee is mostly involved in Jamaat politics. They are involved in anti-liberation politics. The anti-Modi protests were basically a plot to sabotage Bangladesh's golden jubilee. The BNP has given them tacit support."
