Parliament's special session ends

Dhaka, April 11: The special session of the National Parliament has ended. Speaker Shirin Sharmin Chowdhury announced the end of the 22nd session of the current Parliament by reading the announcement of President Md. Abdul Hamid regarding the end of the session on Monday. This session was called on the occasion of the 50th anniversary of the National Parliament.

Parliament Leader and Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina, Leader of Opposition Roshan Ershad, Deputy Leader of Parliament Matia Chowdhury, Deputy Leader of Opposition Golam Mohammad Quader, Chief Whip Noor-e-Alam Chowdhury and others spoke on the last day of the session.

The first session of the National Parliament was held on April 7, 1973. President Md. Abdul Hamid called a special session of the National Assembly from April 6 ahead of that day. On April 7, the President gave a memorial speech in the National Parliament. Later that day, Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina raised a proposal under Rule 147 on the occasion of the Golden Jubilee of the National Assembly.

Sixty-three Members of Parliament participated in the discussion for a total of 10 hours and 23 minutes. Later, the resolution (General) brought by Prime Minister and Leader of Parliament Sheikh Hasina was unanimously accepted in Parliament.

This session had five working days including holidays on Friday and Saturday. Seven bills were raised in this session. But no bill was passed. A total of 469 questions were received in this session, including 20 questions for the Prime Minister and 449 for other ministers.

Thirty-six attention notices have been received under Rule-71. Notices of 8 Government Bills have been received for introduction in the session. Three reports of Standing Committees related to various Ministries were presented.
