Dhaka, Jan 31: Judging by the number of parliamentarians, the balance has not been preserved in the present parliament - the leader of the opposition party in the Jatiya Sangsad, Golam Mohammad (GM) Quader, has commented.

He said, "Judging by the number of seats, 75 percent of the government party in the parliament this time. Independent 21 percent. Almost all of them belong to the government. Three to four percent are only opposition party members. It will be difficult to find complete caste in this parliament. This Parliament will never be able to perform its duties perfectly."

He said these while thanking the new speaker Dr. Shirin Sharmin Chowdhury after the election of the speaker on the first day of the 12th National Parliament session on Tuesday (January 30). GM Quader narrated his experience as a Member of Parliament since 1996. He expressed hope that Speaker Dr. Shirin Sharmin Chowdhury will play a neutral role in the Parliament.

On the question of the speaker's responsibility, GM Quader said, "In the past, although the speaker was a party loyalist, he tried to present himself impartially. I expect you to maintain neutrality."

Referring to the seats of the government party on the right side of the speaker and the seats of the opposition party on the left side, he said, "Our intention was that both sides would be equal. One is the government party, the other is the opposition. They will also be close in numbers. Then there will be an equal fight between them, there will be arguments and quarrels focusing on their own opinions. Parliament will decide in favor of the people. This was the purpose of creating the parliament."

Referring to the results of the 12th National Parliament election, the opposition party leader said, "The National Parliament is a meeting place for all parties. There is the government party on one side, the anti-government party is on the other side. Seventy-five percent of the number of seats after the election is of the government party. 21 percent are independent. They are also almost government party. 3 to 4 percent are only opposition party members. Here the seat distribution is balanced..however symmetrical the seat distribution is lacking symmetrical. So it cannot be called completely beautiful."
