Parliamentary Committee recommends the resumption of Bangladeshi schools located abroad

Dhaka, September 10: The parliamentary committee has recommended reopening of schools for Bangladeshis living abroad, which were closed due to the coronavirus pandemic. If any financial assistance is required for this, it is recommended that the concerned ministry take necessary steps in this regard. The recommendation was made at the 13th meeting of the Standing Committee on the Ministry of Expatriate Welfare and Overseas Employment held at the Sangsad Bhaban on Thursday (September 9).

The meeting discussed the measures taken by the ministry for coronavirus vaccination (based on the needs of the destination country) of expatriate workers abroad. Besides, the latest progress of the establishment of Bangladeshi schools for the children of expatriate workers was also discussed.

In order to ensure the safety and justice of the migrant workers, detailed discussions were held with the representatives of the Bangladesh Civil Society for Migration and the Parliamentary Caucus on Migration on the Foreign Employment and Migration Act, 2013 Amendment and Alternative Dispute Resolution Rules.

It was informed at the meeting that an expatriate welfare desk has been set up at Shahjalal International Airport for coronary vaccination of expatriate workers. Through arbitration under the Overseas Employment and Immigration Act, 2013, opinions / recommendations are presented with amendments, additions and modifications in certain sections of the Rules on Compromise Settlement of Complaints. Emphasis was placed on ensuring civic services by expanding the arbitration activities of the Act at the upazila level.

The meeting was chaired by Anisul Islam Mahmud, chairman of the committee. Members of the committee Imran Ahmed, Minister for Expatriate Welfare and Overseas Employment, Moazzem Hossain Ratan, Ayesha Ferdous, Md Sadeq Khan and Md Iqbal Hossain took part in the meeting. Besides, MPs Md Mujibul Haque, Shamim Haider Patwari and Adiba Anjum Mita took part in the meeting on special invitation.

Shirin Lira, Dr. CR Abrar, Syed Saiful Haque, Farida Yasmeen and Sumaiya Islam joined the meeting at the special invitation of various non-governmental organizations.
