Payra Bridge to be operational from October, says Obaidul Quader

Dhaka, September 16: Road Transport and Bridges Minister Obaidul Quader said the Payra Bridge would be inaugurated soon. We hope that vehicles will be able to use this bridge next month. He also hailed the Payra or Lebukhali bridge as equivalent to the Padma bridge for the people of the south.

The minister said this while inaugurating 11 bridges in three districts at the office of Additional Chief Engineer of Barisal Roads and Highways Department on Wednesday noon. He said 75 per cent work of Bekutia Bridge in Pirojpur has been completed. Besides, Nalua-Baherchar bridge has been passed by ECNEC.

The minister said the culture of finishing work within the stipulated time should be started. The work has to be done keeping the quality of work right. He announced the inauguration of 11 bridges constructed at a cost of Tk 83.23 crore in Barisal division. The total length of these bridges is 491.738 meters.

The bridges are: -

28.78-metre-long Babuganj Bridge on the Rahmatpur-Babuganj-Muladi-Hijla Road in Barisal.

31.828-metre-long Khasherhat Bridge.

31.828-metre-long Nawab Hat Bridge.

31.828-metre-long Kauria Bridge.

25.74-metre-long Khasherhat Bridge.

44.2-metre-long Gurudham Bridge on Barisal-Jhalokati-Bhandaria-Pirojpur Regional Highway in Jhalokati.

69.898-metre-long Tafser Ferry Bridge on Kanthalia (Bandaghata)-Kaikhali-Banaihat road.

44.02-metre-long Banglar Jar Bridge in Bhola's Paran Talukdarhat-Borhanuddin-Lalmohan-Char Fashion-Charmanika Regional Highway.

44.2-metre-long Debirchar Bridge on Debirchar-Nazirpur-Lalmohan-Mangalsikdar-Tajumuddin Regional Highway.

63.798-metre-long Hetalia Bridge on Charkhali-Tuskhali-Mathbaria-Patharghata road of Pirojpur district.

75.978-metre-long Madarsi Bridge on Charkhali-Tuskhali-Mathbaria-Patharghata road.
