PBI did not find the fact of money embezzlement against former mayor Saeed Khokon

Dhaka, May 18: The Police Bureau of Investigation (PBI) has not found the truth of the allegations against seven people including the former mayor of Dhaka South, Syed Khokon, for embezzling Tk 34 crore 89 lakh in the allotment of off-design shops in the capital's Fulbaria Super Market-2.

On Wednesday, Dhaka Metropolitan Magistrate Rajesh Chowdhury accepted the report given by PBI and ordered the discharge of seven people including Saeed Khokon from the case. The other accused who were acquitted are - former chief revenue officer of Dhaka South City Corporation Yusuf Ali Sardar, former deputy assistant engineer Majed, one Kamrul Hasan, Helena Akhtar, Atiqur Rahman and Walid.

On December 29, 2020, Delwar Hossain, the president of Fulbaria Super Market-2, filed this case as a plaintiff in the Metropolitan Magistrate Court of Dhaka. The court accepted the statement of the plaintiff and directed the Police Bureau of Investigation (PBI) to investigate and submit a report. PBI inspector A ZM Moniruzzaman submitted the final report requesting the release of seven people including Saeed Khokon as the truth of the incident was not found on April 8.

According to the complaint of the plaintiff in the case, Syed Khokon Chief Revenue Officer Yusuf Ali Sardar and Sub-Assistant Engineer Majed in collusion with each other and other defendants in the name of allotment of shops allotment of illegal shops. But the current mayor came to power and demolished the out-of-design illegal shops. Many helpless shop owners have suffered crores of rupees. Many shop owners got allotment of shops by selling land from the village. Everyone is affected now. The plaintiff himself mentioned in the deposition that he had suffered a loss of Tk 30 to 35 lakh.
