Dhaka, June 13: In December of this year, the UN Peacekeeping Ministerial Conference is being held in the West African country of Ghana. In view of the request of the United Nations, the preparatory meeting of the ministerial level is going to be held in Dhaka at the end of this month. The main discussion of the meeting will be the participation of women in peace missions.

Officials of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs say that they are going to hold a preparatory meeting for the UN Peacekeeping Ministerial Conference in Bangladesh for the second time. It will be held in Dhaka on June 25 and 26. It is expected to be attended by more than 100 guests, including heads of various UN agencies.

About the meeting to be held in Dhaka, an official of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs said, "The main conference will be in Ghana. All the preliminary things that will be discussed there will be here. Discussions, negotiations, reviews or if anything is signed, everything will be here (in Dhaka). . Then the final will be in Ghana. For what we have here, it is very important."

A responsible official of the ministry said, "The United Nations holds a peacekeeping ministerial every year. The conference will be held in December this year in Ghana. Canada will be the co-chair. Basically, the preparatory meeting will be held in Dhaka. We have been requested by the United Nations. We have done it once before in 2017. This time too, it has been decided that we will organize it. The date has already been finalized. It will be held in Dhaka on June 25 and 26. We have a lot of responsibility for this meeting. Canada is the co-organizer with us. They will finance it as a developed country.”

When asked about the main discussion in the meeting, this official said that the UN gives importance to the overall issue in the ministerial conference. There will be discussions or reviews on various issues. But the main focus is women in peacekeeping. Participation of women in peacekeeping.

It is known that the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Armed Forces Department and Police will coordinate the meeting on behalf of the Bangladesh government. Besides, the United Nations Bangladesh Permanent Mission, the Canadian Embassy in Dhaka and the United Nations Headquarters are working on the preparations for the meeting.

Meanwhile, a two-day meeting of senior officers of the Indian Ocean Rim Association (IORA) is being held in Sylhet from today (June 13). Besides, the two-day Commonwealth Trade and Investment Forum will be held in Dhaka in September this year. It is going to be held in Dhaka for the first time.
