Own Correspondent, Dhaka, 15 August 2023: On the occasion of the 48th martyrdom anniversary of Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman and National Mourning Day, mourners thronged in front of the Bangabandhu Memorial Museum in Dhanmondi on Tuesday. Leaders and workers of various political, social and cultural organizations including Awami League and people from all walks of life started gathering on the street in front of Bangabandhu Bhavan to pay respect to the memory of Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman, the great architect of independent Bangladesh and the best father of the Bengali nation for a thousand years.

The National Mourning Day program started in the morning by paying homage to the portrait of the Father of the Nation. At around 6:30 in the morning, first President Md Sahabuddin and then Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina paid tribute to Bangabandhu. A smart team of armed forces provided the honor guard at this time. At this time, the bugle played a sad tune. After paying homage to the portrait of Bangabandhu, Fateha was recited and special prayers were offered. The President and the Prime Minister participated in the Fateha reading and prayer.

Later, as the president of the party, Sheikh Hasina along with cabinet members and central leaders of Awami League paid tribute to Bangabandhu's portrait once again. Sheikh Rehana, younger sister, was with the Prime Minister during the tribute. After paying her respects, Sheikh Hasina went inside the historical memorial house at 32 Dhanmondi. She visited her father's memorial there and spent about half an hour there. She then left to pay her respects at the Banani graveyard.

Road number 32 became bustling with countless people walking by 6 o'clock in the morning. People from all walks of life including men and women, school and college students, children and teenagers wear black banners in their hands and black badges on their chests. Everyone remembers the Father of the Nation by offering flowers to the portrait of Bangabandhu with utmost respect. From seven in the morning, people of different classes and professions started paying respect to Bangabandhu.

After the Prime Minister left Dhanmondi No. 32, the place was thrown open for common people to pay their respects.

Meanwhile, at 7:30 in the morning, the Prime Minister offered wreaths at the graves of the August 15 martyrs along with his mother, brothers and brothers' wives at the Banani graveyard. He sprinkled flower petals on their graves. After that he participated in recitation of Holy Fateha and prayer. At that time, cabinet members and central leaders of Awami League were present with him.
