Chittagong: A group of people belonging to Chittagong Hindu group will participate in long march demanding three days holiday in Bangladesh during Durga Puja celebrations.

The conscious Hindu community of Chittagong has observed a human chain and sit-in program demanding a three-day public holiday for Durga Puja, the biggest religious festival of the followers of traditional religions.

Leaders and activists of more than 15 Hindu organizations participated in a rally held at the Chittagong Press Club premises at 10:30 am on Friday (September 25).

The human chain and location program demanded the immediate declaration of a three-day government holiday. If the demand is not met, the leaders and workers of the Hindu organization announced a strict movement. Besides, a Satyagraha Padayatra (Long March) was announced from Chittagong Press Club premises towards the Prime Minister's Office Ganobhaban on October 6 in the afternoon.

Speakers at the rally said that despite the provision of equal rights and facilities for people of all religions in the constitution, the Hindu community of this country is being deprived of those facilities. Durga Puja is the biggest religious festival of the Hindu community in this country. Throughout the year, the Hindu community looks forward to this festival.

Everyone in the family is looking forward to coming together for this religious festival. However, only on the last day of the puja, i.e. Vijaya Dashmi, is a public holiday, so the Hindu community is deprived of the opportunity to celebrate religious festivals with their families. That is why the government has demanded a three-day government holiday for Durga Puja.

Over the last few years, the Hindu community in this country has been persecuted on various pretexts. They are terrified. For this reason, the assembly also demanded to provide adequate security for the upcoming Durga Puja. Earlier, a memorandum was issued to the Prime Minister through the Chittagong Deputy Commissioner demanding a three-day leave for Durga Puja.

Convener of Sachetan Hindu Samaj Ripam Das Shekhar presided over the rally. Chittagong City Corporation (CHC) councilor candidates Shaibal Das Sumon, Pulak Khastgir, Rumki Sengupta, Ramna Kali Mandir advisor Milon Sharma, Professor Bangopal Chowdhury, journalist Biplob Perth and others spoke on the occasion.

Among the participating organizations were: Jago Hindu Parishad, Bangladesh Jatiya Hindu Mahajot, Sanatan, Biswa Sanatan Oikya, Shardanjali Forum, Bangladesh Hindu Parishad, Sanatan Vidyarthi Sangsad, Goalpara Loknath Seva Sangha, Gitammritam Sangha Bangladesh, Sanatan Maitri Sangha, Bangladesh Sanatani Sebak Sangha Vedic Parishad, Bangladesh Janmashtami Celebration Parishad, Radha Binod Kendriya Parishad, Navayug Ma Durga Foundation, Jatiya Swadhinata Party.
