Dhaka, January 9: Health Minister Zahid Maleque has said that American multinational pharmaceutical giant Pfizer will provide some dose of the coronavirus vaccine free of cost to Bangladesh.

"We have opened all the doors to the corona vaccine. Many people in our country want to give this vaccine. These include China, Russia, Europe and America. But Pfizer wants to give some vaccines for free. We will take that vaccine and give it to front liners," the health minister said.

He was speaking as the chief guest at a blanket distribution function among the winter victims at Shuvro Center in Manikganj Sadar Upazila on Saturday (January 9) at noon.

The health minister said, "Coronavirus infection in Bangladesh has come down. The infection rate is now 5.5 per cent, recovery rate is 90 per cent and death rate has also come down. There is no wave in our country. There are very few deaths in our country now."

He added, "On an average, 20/25 people are dying every day in the country. But we don't want one person to die in our country because we don't want to. We wear masks, maintain social distance and keep everyone clean. As a result, Bangladesh has a good economy."

"It's good. Our economies are in a plus where all the countries in the world have gone into minus."

"No one has eaten during the corona, no one has been homeless. Everyone is fine, we want to keep it that way. We hope Bangladesh will get the vaccine by the end of this month or early next month and all preparations have been made for the vaccine. There will be no shortage."

Manikganj Deputy Commissioner SM Ferdous, Superintendent of Police Rifat Rahman Shamim, District Judge Court PP Advocate Abdus Salam, Saturia Upazila Chairman Adv. Abdul Majid and others were present at the time.
