Accident Pickup hits DC's car, mobile court instantly sentences driver to jail
Dhaka, March 25: The pickup driver who hit Jhalkathi District Commissioner (DC) Farha Gul Nijhum's car has been sentenced to six months imprisonment by an instant mobile court.
On Friday at 1:15 pm, a cargo pickup coming from the opposite direction hit the official vehicle of the District Commissioner on the road in front of Paur Mini Park in the district city. The Deputy Commissioner was in that car at the time of the incident.
After the incident, the executive magistrate of the district administration, Angching Marma, set up a mobile court and sentenced the driver Parvez Mollah to six months imprisonment and a fine of Tk 30,000. He was sent to jail. At the same time, the pickup was seized and sent to Jhalkathi Sadar police station.
The sentenced Parvez Molla is the son of Mojibur Molla of Bablatla village in Shibchar area of Madaripur district. He works in the delivery of goods for the National Polymer Group. Executive Magistrate Angching Marma confirmed this information.
Eyewitnesses said that the pickup full of plastic pipes was going towards the city from Kheyaghat at a reckless speed. The driver did not control the car properly and hit the Deputy Commissioner's car. District Administration Executive Magistrate Angching Marma and Traffic Sergeant Sajjad Hossain came to the spot after receiving the news.
At that time, the pickup was seized by punishing him for the crime of causing death by hitting the Deputy Commissioner's car and causing damage to government property.
The OC of Jhalkathi Sadar police station has been directed to verify all the documents before handing over the pickup to the owner of the vehicle and deposit the fine and VAT-tax in the government treasury.
Deputy Commissioner Farha Gul Nijhum said that at that time she was going to the doctor with her father. She was saved from great danger by the efforts of her skillful driver.
