Dhaka, July 4: Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina has called upon all public representatives, irrespective of party affiliation, to work unitedly to build a developed, prosperous and smart Bangladesh by 2041.

She said that everything will be smart, including the population, economy and agriculture of Bangladesh. So we have to work for the desired development of the country.

She said these at the swearing-in ceremony of newly elected mayors of three city corporations, Abul Khair Abdullah of Barisal, Talukdar Abdul Khalek of Khulna and Zayda Khatun of Gazipur, at the Shapla Hall of her office in Dhaka on Monday.

Pointing out that the candidates of various political parties have been elected as public representatives, the Prime Minister said, "We have to work together for the overall development of Bangladesh."

In this context, Sheikh Hasina said that she does not see who is elected from her party as the Prime Minister of everyone and in terms of development work of the country.

She said, "We do not work by looking at the area. Working for the betterment of every citizen." Referring to the establishment of community clinic in this context, the Prime Minister said that she has done it for everyone. She said, "Whatever I do, I do it for the welfare of the people."

Urging everyone to work and serve to ensure the overall development of their area and gain the trust and confidence of the people, she said, "You (the newly elected mayors and councilors of the three city corporations) have been elected by the people and have the opportunity to serve them. I want you to serve the people and fulfill their expectations."

Sheikh Hasina said her government has taken Bangladesh to a prestigious position and the world respects the country. "Bangladesh will move towards prosperity by facing all natural and man-made disasters."

Referring to the BNP-Jamaat alliance fire violence in 2013-14, she said, "We don't want to see any such horrible situation in the coming days. Our (people's representatives) should aim to continue the development of the country, ensure peace in public life and give them a better life." .

The Prime Minister said that the people of the country have repeatedly voted Awami League to power in 2008, 2014 and 2018. In the last 14 and a half years from 2009 to date, the government has made extensive development in Bangladesh. As Awami League has been in power for a long time, democracy and development have continued in the country.

She said that Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman built the war-torn country besides establishing the voting rights of the people and making Bangladesh a less developed country. After the assassination of the Father of the Nation on August 15, 1975, the military dictator Ziaur Rahman took away the voting rights of the people.
