PM Hasina calls for Turkey's involvement in Rohingya repatriation

Dhaka, December 24: Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina has called for Turkey's involvement in ensuring sustainable repatriation of Myanmar's Rohingya nationals, who were forced to flee the Muslim majority Rakhine state.

She made the call during a courtesy call on visiting Turkish Foreign Minister Mevlut Cavusoglu at Ganobhaban on Wednesday.

Later, Deputy Press Secretary to the Prime Minister Hasan Zahid Tushar briefed reporters.

During the meeting, the Prime Minister called upon Turkey to get involved in ensuring the return of Myanmar nationals who were forcibly deported to Bangladesh and returned to their homeland.

The Prime Minister also called upon Turkey to invest more in the special economic zones of Bangladesh.

Referring to the huge regional market and internal market of Bangladesh due to its geographical location, Sheikh Hasina said Bangladesh has a huge market due to its location in the heart of South Asia and South East Asia. If Turkey invests here, both countries will benefit.

Expressing Turkey's interest in strengthening bilateral trade relations with Bangladesh, the visiting Foreign Minister said that Turkey values ​​bilateral relations with Bangladesh. His country will do whatever it takes to strengthen bilateral trade relations.

Turkey is investing in Bangladesh in all sectors from energy to tourism, said the country's foreign minister.

The Prime Minister thanked Turkey for repairing the Bangladesh Navy's warship 'Vijay', which was damaged in the horrific explosion at the Lebanese capital Beirut.

The Prime Minister reiterated the invitation extended by the President of Turkey to visit Bangladesh. If the coronavirus situation improves, Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan may visit Bangladesh in March, the golden jubilee month of Bangladesh's independence, the visiting foreign minister said.

The Turkish Foreign Minister thanked Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina for inviting the Turkish President to visit Bangladesh. He also praised the progress of Bangladesh and the leadership of Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina.

At the same time, he praised the steps taken by the Sheikh Hasina government to deal with the pandemic.
