PM Hasina to address UN virtual session

Dhaka, 22 September 2020: Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina will address the virtual meeting of the United Nations for the first time. The prime minister will address the inaugural ceremony at 4 am on Tuesday (September 22).

Foreign Minister AK Abdul Momen made the remarks at a virtual press conference on Monday (September 21st). He said the Prime Minister will address the General Assembly on September 26. There she will discuss the Rohingya and other issues.

The Prime Minister is expected to address the issues of Covid-19, Rohingya, climate change, reduction of gender inequality, rights of migrant workers and sustainable development goals.

The minister said she would take part in a total of seven programs from Dhaka till October 1.

He said that by participating in this session, the prime minister will be able to highlight the various steps taken by the Bangladeshi government to tackle COVID-19, th country's success and progress in SDG implementation, steps for women's development and women's rights, various steps taken to alleviate poverty, suppressing militancy and preventing the spread of drugs, economic progress, democracy and good governance, and above all, will be able to inform the world about Bangladesh's contribution to world peace.

He added that Bangladesh will raise the issue of Rohingya in the UN session as usual. The Rohingya issue will be discussed in this session as seriously as in previous years, especially due to the recent criminal cases against the Rohingya community in the ICJ and the ongoing legal process against those responsible for torturing them, in the ICC.
