PM Hasina urges officials not to take risks during ongoing Covid19 pandemic

Dhaka, June 15: Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina has instructed officials not to take any risk during the ongoing coronavirus infection. She said that if necessary, the area at risk of infection should be blocked. The Prime Minister gave such instructions at a cabinet meeting held at the Jatiya Sangsad Bhaban on Monday (June 14). Cabinet Secretary Khandaker Anwarul Islam told reporters at the Secretariat at noon.

"The Prime Minister said that from now on, authority has been given to everyone in the local administration. Allready we said that in a letter. However she asked us to remind them again, not to take any risk. They should try and block the spread of coronavirus whichever way they feel comfortable," the Cabinet Secretary said.

"The issue of coronavirus was discussed. In addition to the meeting, there was talk. Already we have had a word with the local administration, the local government, the armed forces and the law agencies to sit down locally and act if they if they see an increase in infection in an area," he said.

He said corona infection has increased in Dinajpur and decreased in Jessore and Chapainawabganj.

Asked if they have reached a decision regarding the lockdown, the Cabinet Secretary said, "There are two more days. It has not been discussed yet. Let's see what happens."

Telling reporters that government offices were open, he said, "We have divided the manpower. More than half of the staff don't come to office during this pandemic."

Speaking about Chinese-Russian coronavirus vaccine, he said, "The talks are going on, let's see. It will be briefed by the Ministry of Health."
