PM holds phone call with UAE President, expresses gratitude

Dhaka, August 15: Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina spoke to the President of the United Arab Emirates (UAE) Sheikh Mohammed bin Zayed Al Nahyan over the phone at around 8:30 pm on Monday.

"The two leaders exchanged greetings and spoke to each other for 15 minutes on various issues," read a press release from the Prime Minister's Press Wing.

Sheikh Hasina expressed her deep gratitude to the Bangladeshi people, the government, the family of Lt Col (retd.) Sufiul Anam and on her own behalf the UAE President as well as the UAE Intelligence Unit for their tremendous efforts and successful negotiations to secure Anam's release from her abductors in Yemen. do As a result of their successful initiative, Lt. Col. (retd.) Sufiul Anam was recently released from his abductors in Yemen.

Sheikh Hasina praised the successful release talks and said that the UAE has established itself as a responsible nation through successful peacekeeping and visionary leadership in Amman's release from Al-Qaeda captivity. He hoped that the UAE would continue to play such responsibilities for peace and stability in the region in the days to come.

The Prime Minister said that such cooperation would further strengthen the existing strong bilateral relations and cement the commitment between the two peace-loving countries. He also thanked the foreign ministry officials of the two countries.

Both leaders recalled that the founding fathers of the two countries Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman and Sheikh Zayed bin Sultan Al Nahyan established bilateral relations between the two brotherly countries in March 1974. Sheikh Hasina thanked the UAE President for being present during the phone call. He deeply mourned the untimely death of his brother His Highness Sheikh Saeed bin Zayed Al Nahyan.

The Prime Minister reiterated that Bangladesh and the UAE will celebrate the 50th anniversary of diplomatic relations in March next year. To that end, he expressed his willingness to jointly undertake commemorative activities to celebrate the historic event.

He invited the President of UAE to visit Bangladesh on the occasion.
