Own Correspondent, Dhaka, April 25: Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina has expressed hope that Chittagong Port will play a very effective role in building the golden Bangladesh of Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman's dream.

In a message issued on the occasion of 'Chittagong Port Day' on Monday, she said, "I hope all those involved in the overall development of Chittagong port will work sincerely and through the implementation of the government's vision 2041, the port of Chittagong will play more effective role in building golden Bangladesh which was dreamt by the greatest Bengali of all time, Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman."

The Prime Minister said the United Nations has recently recognized Bangladesh's transition from a least developed country to a developing country. One of the important driving forces of our achievement is import-export and foreign trade. Seaports have an important role to play in increasing foreign trade.

Sheikh Hasina said, "We are implementing a number of short and long term projects to accelerate this journey towards becoming a developed country. These USD 40 billion infrastructure projects include the construction of the 6.16 km Padma Setu (bridge), the 2.4 gigawatt Rooppur nuclear power plant, the Payra seaport, the coal-fired massive power plant at Matarbari, the construction of the Karnafuli Tunnel, the Metrorail and the LNG terminal."

"In implementing these projects, our import volume has also increased manifold. The port of Chittagong continues to play a vital role in ensuring that these imported goods are properly managed and delivered to their destinations on time," she added.

The Prime Minister wished overall success to all the programmes taken on the occasion of 135th Chittagong Port Day.
