Dhaka, Nov 6: Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina arrived in Saudi Arabia to attend the International Conference on 'Women in Islam' held in Jeddah. Saudi Arabia is hosting the conference from November 6 to 8 in coordination with the General Secretariat of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC).

A Biman Bangladesh Airlines commercial flight carrying the Prime Minister and her entourage landed at Prince Mohammad Bin Abdulaziz International Airport in Madinah at 1:10 pm local time. Earlier, the flight left Dhaka's Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport (HSIA) at 9:10 am on Sunday.

The Prime Minister will visit the Holy Prophet Hazrat Muhammad (PBUH)'s Rawza Mubarak Ziarat at Masjid an-Nabawi in Madinah and recite Fateha after Asr prayers there. Sheikh Hasina will go from Medina to Jeddah by train. After the Isha prayer, the Prime Minister will perform the holy Umrah at Masjidul Haram (Kaaba Sharif) in Makkah. The Prime Minister will attend and address the conference on November 6.

She is scheduled to meet with OIC Secretary General Hissen Brahim Taha, Vice President of Iran's Department of Women and Family Affairs Enseih Khajali, OIC Women's Development Executive Director Dr. Afnan Alshuaibi and Saudi Foreign Minister Prince Faisal bin Farhan. Apart from attending the conference, she will attend the inauguration of the exhibition titled 'Women in Islam' and a dinner organized in her honour.

A commercial flight of Biman Bangladesh Airlines carrying the Prime Minister will leave the King Abdulaziz International Airport at 10:45 pm local time. The flight is scheduled to land at Dhaka's Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport (HSIA) on Wednesday, November 8 at 8 am.

The conference will discuss five issues and publish the 'Jeddah Document on Women in Islam'. The 49th session of the Council of Foreign Ministers held in March 2023 in Mauritania called for an international conference on women in Islam and welcomed the proposal to host it by Saudi Arabia in coordination with the General Secretariat.

The aim of the conference is to clarify the rights and responsibilities of women in Islam, especially the rights of women in education and work according to the teachings of Islam, through the wide participation of scholars of the Muslim Ummah.
