Own Correspondent, Dhaka, June 14: Forgery of Prime Minister's signature is a heinous crime. The court ruled that there was no room for leniency in dealing with those involved. The High Court on Monday rejected the rule of bail of Fatema Khatun in a case related to forgery of documents of the Prime Minister's Office.

A High Court division bench comprising Justice Md. Nazrul Islam Talukder and Justice Kazi Md. Izarul Haque Akand passed the order.

At the time, the court said that forging the signature of the Prime Minister was a heinous crime and there was no chance of leniency towards those involved in this act. The court further said that there was no question of granting bail to those involved in forging the signature of the Prime Minister. They have to stay in jail.

Lawyer Momtaz Uddin Mehedi was in favour of Fatima in the court. Deputy Attorney General AKM Amin Uddin Manik represented the state.

According to the details of the case, the nominees for the post of treasurer of North-South University are Prof. Dr. M. Enamul Haque, Chairman, Department of History, Prof. Md. Abdur Rauf, Professor, Department of Civil Engineering, BUET, and retired Air Commodore M. Abdus Salam Azad, former Treasurer of Bangladesh University of Professional. The documents were sent from the ministry to the PM's office. When the document was presented to the Prime Minister, he ticked the name of Professor Dr M Enamul Haque.

Later, in preparation for sending the document to the President for final approval, the document went to Fatima, an office assistant in the Prime Minister's Office, who told BCL leader Tariqul over phone that M Abdus Salam Azad had not been approved as treasurer.

Then, according to Tariqul's plan, Fatema took the document out of the PM's office and handed it over to a man named Farhad. In that document, Tariqul tampered with the tick mark given by the Prime Minister next to the name of Dr. M. Enamul Haque and gave a cross mark there. Similarly, with the cross mark next to the name of Professor Md. Abdur Rauf, he also ticked the name of Air Commodore M Abdus Salam Azad. The document was later sent to the President's Office.

Before handing over the documents, Fatema received Tk 10,000 through mobile banking and another time she took Tk 10,000 through her son's mobile banking, the case said.
