PM to inaugurate Hajj programme on May 19

Dhaka, April 26: Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina likely to inaugurate this year's Hajj programme on May 19. The Prime Minister has given her consent for the commencement of Hajj activities on that day or at a convenient date and time.

For this reason, a letter has been sent from the Ministry of Religious Affairs to the Director of Hajj on Tuesday to complete the preparations for Ashkona Hajj Camp in the capital.

It is said in the letter that the Prime Minister has agreed to exchange greetings with the pilgrims of the year Hijri 1444/2023 and to inaugurate the Hajj programme on May 19 or at a convenient date and time of the Prime Minister. In that perspective, it is necessary to complete other activities related to Hajj after taking the overall preparation of Hajj camp within the mentioned period.

In such a situation, the letter given by the Ministry has requested to complete all the Haj camp preparations and other activities related to Haj within the mentioned date and time. The Holy Hajj will be held on June 27 (9 Zilhj) this year subject to moon sighting. As per the Hajj agreement with Saudi Arabia, 1,27,198 people from Bangladesh will be able to perform Hajj this time.

Among them, 15,000 people will get the opportunity to perform Hajj under the government management and the remaining 1,12,198 people under the private management. This year's Hajj flights will start from May 21. And the registration process is ending today.
