PM wants British cooperation in development of railways in Bangladesh

Dhaka, July 28: Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina has sought the UK's cooperation in the development of Bangladesh's railway sector. Hasina sought this cooperation when former British Prime Minister and Executive Chairman of the Institute for Global Change, Tony Blair, paid a courtesy call on her on Thursday evening at Ganabhaban, the PM's official residence.

After the meeting, Press Secretary Ihsanul Karim quoted the Prime Minister as saying that Bangladesh would be happy to receive British cooperation in the development of the Bangladesh railway sector.

The press secretary said that in the meeting, Tony Blair praised the socio-economic and infrastructure development of Bangladesh under the wise leadership of Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina.

Blair said, "The overall development of Bangladesh is expected to be more dynamic in the coming days."

Sheikh Hasina said that the goal of her government is to make Bangladesh a developed country by 2041. To this end, his government is giving top priority to the development of Information Communication Technology (ICT).

Ambassador M. Ziauddin and Principal Secretary to Prime Minister Md. Tofajzel Hossain Mia were present in the meeting.
