PMO orders to control product prices during Ramadan

Dhaka, March 6: The Prime Minister's office has instructed the secretaries to be alert about the overall situation including commodity prices, law and order situation, traffic congestion, electricity and gas supply during the upcoming Ramadan and Eid-ul-Fitr.

This instruction was given in a meeting held on Tuesday in the meeting room of the Prime Minister's office regarding various issues related to stocking, supply, price situation of daily necessities during the upcoming Ramadan. The meeting was presided over by Chief Secretary to the Prime Minister Md. Tofazzal Hossain Mia.

After the meeting, Prime Minister's Chief Secretary Tofazzal Hossain Mia said, "There is much more food and daily commodities stocked in the country this Ramadan than in previous years. Besides, sufficient food grains and daily necessities are available in the market. We have been able to properly prepare for fasting. No one will have any problem when the necessary measures are taken. We can celebrate Ramadan and Eid very well."

He said, "We have given instructions to everyone so that the daily commodities reach the people during Ramadan and the supply chain is in order. Government has taken food friendly programme for low income people. Food products will be supplied in two installments around Ramadan and Eid through OMS program and TCB. Oil, sugar, pulses, chickpeas, onions and dates will be given twice to one crore people."

The chief secretary urged all concerned to implement these directives of the Prime Minister to ease the suffering of people during Ramadan. Apart from this, the meeting discussed the issues of ensuring easy ticketing of Eid trips, maintaining order on the highways, renovating roads and bridges before Eid, increasing ferries by sea, preventing excess passenger transport, increasing domestic flights by air and salary of garment and jute mill workers.
