Dhaka, July 3: Police have arrested 320 people for leaving their homes unnecessarily on Friday, the second day of a "hard lockdown" imposed to control the spread of the coronavirus.

It had been raining in the capital all day on Friday. The traffic was light at this time of the day. As a result, the checkpoints at the corners of the road were a bit looser than the previous day. But at the end of the day, the number of arrests was not low.

According to the media department of the Dhaka Metropolitan Police, in addition to the arrests, the mobile court has fined 208 people. The traffic department of the police has fined 68 vehicles.

On the first day of the lockdown, 550 people were arrested on the streets of Dhaka on Thursday. Police said they left the house "unnecessarily". Sajjadur Rahman, deputy commissioner of Dhaka Metropolitan Police's Ramna division, said in the morning that the number of arrests could be lower on Friday. He said it was raining on one side and Friday was a holiday on the other. That's why people are less out on the streets.

This severe lockdown began for a week from Thursday as coronavirus infections increased at an alarming rate. Troops have been deployed across the country to assist the civilian administration in enforcing government restrictions. 106 executive magistrates have been deployed in the field to run mobile courts. Offices, courts, public transport, shopping malls are closed; All mechanical vehicles except emergency service vehicles are also banned.

The public has been requested to stay at home. The ban warns that anyone who leaves the house without an urgent reason will face severe punishment.
