Police boost ops to tackle rising cases of snatching in Dhaka

Dhaka, July 21: In normal times, the people of the capital are fed up with the violence of robbers in the city of Dhaka. Moreover, the roads of Dhaka were relatively deserted during the four days of the Eid holiday. Robbers become more reckless at night in an empty Dhaka. Besides, they are also targeting the people returning to Dhaka after the holiday. Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) reeling after a police constable was killed by robbers. Operations have been started to tackle the rising cases of snatching in the capital.

The concerned said that special instructions have been given to 50 police stations for special operations. Special anti-robbery teams have been formed in police stations. In many police stations, Quick Response Teams have been added to the anti-robbery drive. The search is on for the list of those who have been involved in robbery in the past. Patrol duty has been increased.

DMP Commissioner Khandkar Ghulam Farooq told reporters after inspecting the Eid journey of the homebound people at the capital's Mohakhali bus terminal two days before Eid, that efforts will be made to keep Dhaka safe during Eid so that these criminals do not get bail. In the meantime, Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) arrested 679 robbers in the capital Dhaka in the last 14 days after Eid. They were arrested by conducting raids in different areas of the capital. 308 cases were filed against the arrested in different police stations of DMP.

Research has revealed that when the night is dark and there is less traffic and people, robbers become reckless. It then became a hazard for rickshaw pullers and pedestrians in several areas. It is difficult to protest against these bandits armed with indigenous weapons. If you try to use a little force, you are afraid of killing yourself. Casualties are often caused by robber stabbings. The robbers are running away by pulling their mobile phones to get out of the bus or private car.

Police constable Moniruzzaman Talukder (40) returned to Tejgaon railway station by train from his village Sherpur after the Eid holiday. A group of robbers fatally stabbed Moniruzzaman as soon as he went in front of Cezanne Point of Farmgate on foot in the early morning of July 1. After the murder, he took away his belongings. In this incident, when four people were arrested that night, one of them confessed to the murder. During the robbery, the knife used in the murder and the stolen mobile phone were later recovered by the police.
