Police's 'block raids' underway in Dhaka ahead of August 15

Dhaka, August 14: The Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) is conducting block raids in the capital tomorrow (August 15) on National Mourning Day. Started on August 12, these block raids will continue till today (August 14) in different hotels and messes of the capital.

In an order signed by DMP Commissioner Khandkar Ghulam Farooq on Saturday, it is said that the relevant officials including all crime and intelligence departments of DMP have been instructed to conduct block raids and search operations in all residential hotels, messes and slum areas on August 15. Block raids have been ordered to prevent anarchy, chaos, destruction and militancy on the upcoming August 15.

According to the order of the DMP commissioner, there is a need to conduct a special operation from August 12-14 to prevent vandalism, anarchy, disorder and destruction and to prevent rumors and misinformation on social media in order to control law and order and crime in Dhaka city on the occasion of the upcoming National Mourning Day on August 15.

Area-based block raids, searches and check-post activities should be conducted in homes, residential hotels, messes, slums with the aim of preventing militants from taking a position on August 15. Block raids and searches should be conducted in all residential hotels, messes and slum areas of the DMP. Yard meetings during special operations should be expedited. Everyone should be made aware of militancy and the threat of militancy in various areas through yard meetings and people should be involved in police activities.

All are requested to work sincerely and make the special operation successful so that no terrorist militant group can carry out subversive activities in Dhaka city.

Besides, it has also been asked to conduct search and block raid operations in hostels, clinics, abandoned factories, suspected coaching centers, English medium schools/educational institutions and other suspected institutions. After updating the details of tenants and members of each mess in each police station of DMP, the details of suspicious persons should be reported to DB and CTTC through the Deputy Commissioner of Police of the concerned division.
