Police should be prepared to face any challenge: Home Minister

Own Correspondent, Dhaka, July 27: Home Minister Asaduzzaman Khan emphasized on preparing Bangladesh Police to face any challenge through training.

He said this at the 18th Board meeting of the Police Staff College (PSC) at Mirpur in the capital on Tuesday (July 26).

Home Minister Asaduzzaman Khan said, "We want to modernize the police and increase the capacity of the police. Because the police have to face many challenges. If they are not properly trained, it will be difficult to maintain law and order."

He said that there is no alternative to training to increase the capacity of policemen to face new challenges in the field of law and order. Police Staff College is playing an important role in this regard. The role played by Bangladesh Police in combating militancy and terrorism has been appreciated at home and abroad.

Emphasizing on the signing of memorandum of understanding with renowned universities of different countries for police training, the Home Minister said that the police should be prepared to face any challenge through training.

In the meeting, Senior Secretary of Public Security Department Md. Akhtar Hossain said that the government has taken various measures to improve the quality of police training. Police is making appreciable contribution in maintaining internal security and law and order in the country.

In the 18th board meeting of PSC, Inspector General of Police (IGP) Dr. Benazir Ahmed said that the Police Staff College is not only playing an important role in the training of the police force, but also in the national context.

In the 18th board meeting, the establishment of Bangabandhu Centre for Police Research and Development, amendment of the law of Police Staff College Bangladesh and formulation of rules and regulations, manpower increase, foreign training, signing of MoU with Cambridge University were discussed.
