Police to get helicopter soon: PM Hasina

Own Correspondent, Dhaka, 27 February 2024: Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina has said that the government has implemented multifaceted activities to make the police force more efficient and professional. He said, "The process of forming a full-fledged aviation unit in the police is underway. Two helicopters will soon be added to the police force's operations."

He said these things while addressing the chief guest at the inauguration of Police Week-2024 on Tuesday, February 27. Police Week begins with the annual Police Parade at Rajarbagh Police Lines Ground under the theme 'Smart Police Smart Country, Peaceful Progress Bangladesh'.

According to the election manifesto of Awami League, the government is working to develop the Bangladesh Police as a 'smart police force', the Prime Minister said, "After the formation of the government in 2009, we have not taken steps to improve the law and order situation in the country. We declare zero tolerance against militancy and terrorism. Police, RAB and all Enhance the capacity of law enforcement and intelligence forces. In the last 15 years, we have implemented multi-faceted activities for the development of the police. To eliminate militancy and terrorism, we have formed the Anti-Terrorism Unit (ATU) and Counter-Terrorism and Transnational Crime Unit (CTTC) in the police. Bureau of Investigation (PBI), Highway Police, Industrial Police, Tourist Police, Naval Police, Anti Terrorism Unit, Special Security and Protection Battalion, MRT Police.”

He said, "Two battalions of armed police and one battalion of RAB have been deployed for the security of the Rohingya camps. In the meantime, DNA lab, modern forensic lab, automated finger print identification system (AFIS) and modern chemical laboratory have been set up in Bangladesh Police. These labs are in some divisional cities. Activities are ongoing. There are plans to set up such labs in all departments in the future."

Sheikh Hasina said, "Police Staff College is now an international standard training institution. We have arranged contemporary training in police training centers including Bangladesh Police Academy. We have made Tangail Police Training Center an excellent center for UN peacekeeping training."
