Own Correspondent, Dhaka, March 2, 2024: Bangladesh Inspector General of Police (IGP) Chowdhury Abdullah Al-Mamun has expressed deep grief and sorrow over the loss of life in a fire in a multi-storied building on Bailey Road in the capital.

Immediately after the fire, the IGP rushed to the spot along with senior officials to abridge the ongoing police week program at Rajarbagh Police Lines. He inspected the site and supervised rescue operations. The police chief visited Sheikh Hasina Burn Institute, Dhaka Medical College Hospital and Central Police Hospital late at night to see the injured.

In view of this tragic fire incident, the Friday exchange meeting of Police Week 2024 has been cancelled. Usually there is a get together of police officers and their family members along with this exchange meeting.

It is to be noted that a girl studying in the additional DIG of Bangladesh Police also lost her life due to fire. The IGP prayed for the repose of the souls of the deceased and expressed his deepest condolences to the bereaved family members. He wished speedy recovery to the injured and those under treatment.
