Pori Moni attempted rape case: Nasir, Omie among five arrested

Dhaka, June 15: Police have arrested five people, including businessman Nasir Uddin Mahmud and his friend Omie, accused in the case of attempted rape and murder of film actress Pori Moni.

They were arrested on Monday afternoon after raiding Nasir Uddin's house on Uttara-1 Sector-12 Road.

Harun-ur-Rashid, joint police commissioner of the intelligence department (North-Tejgaon, Gulshan, Mirpur and Uttara) and the cyber and special crime division, said they had been arrested in connection with the case of popular actress Pori Moni. Now they will be interrogated. Foreign liquor was recovered during the raid on Nasir Uddin Mahmud's house.

Asked why his Pori Moni went to the club, Harun-ur-Rashid said a case had been filed in this regard. The investigating officer of the case will take note of these issues and interrogate everyone.

Earlier, the actress filed a case against Nasir Uddin and five others at Savar police station around 12 noon on Monday on charges of attempted rape and murder. Savar Model Police Station Inspector (OC) Kazi Mainul Islam confirmed the matter. Nasir Uddin and his friend Omie were named in the case and four others have been named as unidentified accused. Earlier in the morning, Pori Moni lodged a written complaint through the Rupnagar police station.

OC Kazi Mainul Islam said Pori Moni had filed the case in the name of six people. The matter has been issued case No. 38.

Earlier on Sunday (June 13) night, Pori Moni first sought justice by alleging attempted rape and murder in a status on her verified Facebook page.

After the initial Facebbok status, Pori Moni address a press confecrence at her Banani residence on Sunday, where she narrated the incident. During the press conference, Pori Moni also named two persons as perpetrators.

The two were identified as Nasir U Mahmud, former president of Uttara Club Limited and another man named Omie, a businessman by profession.

"Last Wednesday, at midnight, Omie took me to a club at Birulia. I met Nasir U Mahmud that day and he introduced himself as the president of Dhaka Boat Club," the actress told reporters in Bengali.

"They physically assaulted me and tried to kill me. Omie was also involved in the whole setup," she added.
