Dhaka, January 19: State Minister for Power, Energy and Mineral Resources Nasrul Hamid said the country's current power generation capacity is 24,421 MW. Of these, grid-based generation capacity including imports is 21,239 MW, captive 2800 MW and renewable energy 382 MW. He was responding to a question from Member of Parliament Ali Azam (Bhola-2) in Parliament on Tuesday (January 19).

At the time, the minister said the present government, considering the development of the power sector and future needs, has taken steps to increase the power generation capacity to 24,000 MW by 2021, 40,000 MW by 2030 and 60,000 MW by 2041 and implement them in a timely manner. .

The plans are being implemented in phases and are in various stages of implementation.

He said 41 power plants with a total capacity of 14,345 MW are under construction at present. These power plants will be commissioned in phases between 2021 and 2026. Agreements are being signed for the construction of 18 power plants with a total capacity of 2,899 MW. These power plants will be commissioned in phases between 2021 and 2026. Tenders are under process for construction of seven power plants with a total capacity of 700 MW. These power plants will be commissioned in phases from 2022 to 2023.

A total of 33 power plants with a total capacity of 15,019 MW are under construction. A 2,400 MW nuclear power plant is under construction at Rooppur, which will be commissioned by 2024. On the basis of regional cooperation, 1,996 MW of power is being imported from India and Nepal, which will start between 2022 and 2026.
